I’m Anna Sale, an interviewer and writer likened by The New York Times to “a therapist at happy hour.” Since 2014, I’ve hosted Death, Sex & Money, the interview podcast about “the things we think about a lot and need to talk about more.” The show was produced for many years at WNYC, and after a “funeral” covered by The New Yorker, the show was reborn at Slate in 2024.

I’ve contributed to This American Life, Fresh Air, The New York Times and The Atlantic and hosted national call-in radio specials and on-stage interviews and variety shows at SF Sketchfest, Tribeca Fest, the Commonwealth Club of California, the Shed, the Castro Theater, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. My 2021 book, Let’s Talk About Hard Things, explores how we navigate life’s most fraught conversations.

I grew up in West Virginia and studied history at Stanford University. I now live in Berkeley with my two kids and husband Arthur, a wildlife ecologist whose work often takes us to Cody, Wyoming.
